Breaking up is not easy on both the person doing the breaking up and the person being broken up with. If you’ve found yourself to be in this terrible situation, it is important to know the best way to handle yourself during the break up process. This will help make things as easy as possible on you.
First, stop blaming yourself for the break up. It is not your fault or anyone’s fault. Trying to point the blame at anyone will only result in a bunch of negative feelings towards others or yourself. Which you don’t want to start doing.
Don’t try to do anything stupid during this time. Allow the break up to happen and accept it. Many people turn to using common methods such as “the guilt trip” to talk their partner into staying. Or other immature means such as making your partner guilty. This is not a good way of having a sustainable relationship and ultimately your partner will only end up resenting you.
Often people think they must have done something wrong. That they caused the break up and they must be “fixed”. Know that to break up is a sign that it is the relationship itself that was not working. Not necessarily you.
The experience that we go through after a break up will vary from person to person. Some people get angry and distressed. Others become extremely depressed. It might even cause others to have suicidal thoughts. You must be careful that those emotions you feel during a break up are only temporarily and not to allow yourself to indulge in it.
Some people will start to blame themself or blame their partners. They can’t accept things for what it is and that hopelessness can take over. Understand you are completely normal to feel how you feel and to let yourself be mad and sad. Just make sure to do it in the right environment.
Turn to friends or cry your eyes out. Let your emotions out, don’t bottle them up. Let go off any resentment or regret about the problems related to the relationship and the break up.
Don’t stoop yourself to a low level of acting immature due to this break up. Act like the bigger person and try to be mature about it. Calm yourself down and think rationally during this time. You’ll see that things will get easier in time.
